Chamber President's Commentary -- Mike Seward

On February 20th, your Bay Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the Bay Area "State of the Community" program at Bay Valley Resort with a full house of more than 320 community and business leaders registered.

Speakers included:

  • Chris Shannon, Mayor, City of Bay City
  • Ernie Krygier, Chair, Bay County Board of Commissioners
  • Paul Wasek, Supervisor, Williams Charter Township
  • John Mertz, Superintendent, Essexville-Hampton Public Schools

    Chamber Chairman of the Board, Pat O'Brien, EMCOR, Inc., Public Affairs Division Vice Chairman, Guy Packard, Consumers Energy, and AT&T's Gavin Goetz also participated.

    The theme for the event was "Great Challenges - Great Opportunities", coined by Mayor Shannon.

    Speakers keyed in on at least nine major issues impacting the Bay Area that are presently being addressed, such as:

  • Community & Economic Development
  • Public Safety
  • Water Quality & Supply
  • Neighborhood Development
  • Financial Management
  • Saginaw Bay Beaches & Pier
  • Necessary Construction/Repairs of Roads
  • Education Improvements
  • Collaboration

    It was pointed out during the program that teamwork, cooperation and unity are the cornerstones of progress. It was also pointed out that with business, government and education leaders working together in an open and positive manner, we can continue to build and improve the entire Bay Area.

    Your Bay Area Chamber of Commerce calls on all of our leaders and residents to help build big ticket ideals for this community.

    Let's make sure the Bay Area continues to thrive and improve.
