Yes, it's Spring. But you wouldn't know it from the temperature! It barely reached the freezing point for this year's St. Patrick's Day Parade down Bay City's Center Avenue. Last year it was 80 degrees! But at least the sun was out and everyone was in a great mood.
This was the 59th year for the annual parade. Reports were that there were about 55 floats and over 140 total entries. The morning foot race hit a record number of participants as well.
MyBayCity.com did it again and went way overboard taking pictures. Way too many to show them all. So we picked a representative sample to give you a flavor of the day. If you have friends and relatives in warmer climates, send them a link to this article to show 'em how Northerners handle a little cool air!
Just for the fun of it, you might want to check out these St. Pat's stories from previous years. It's interesting just to see how digital cameras have evolved since 2002:
For another take on the subject of parades, check out what was going on in 1978 in this
article from the archives of the Bay County Sports Page & Bay City Enterprise newspapers. Published from 1976 through 1984, those papers were the "grandparents" of today's MyBayCity.com.
It looks like the same picture as last year, but this is the 2013 parade kick-off with the traditional escort of Police Cars, Fire and Rescue vehicles. Somehow there seemed to be more vehicles and the sirens seemed louder this year!
Yep, it was louder this year.
Oh My Goodness! Those sirens hurt her ears.
