FRANKENMUTH, MI - The Frankenmuth Farmers Market (FFM) kicks off its ninth season this Saturday, May 18, 8am-1pm in downtown Frankenmuth next to Harvest Coffeehouse. Free parking is behind the Market, near Cass and Main Streets. The opening Market will feature plants, flowers, produce, herbs, baked goods, tea, jams, art and much more from Hoffman Farm, Miller's Orchard, Lawrence Farm, Beyer Farm, Buttercrust Bakery, DMS Fisheries, Kapow Soaps, Kachomp Dog Treats, Tozy Tea and more. Each Saturday offers a different musician sponsored by Frankenmuth Credit Union. Most Market farmers live and grow their products just a few miles away, and the Market accepts vendors from only within a 75-mile radius. The weekend also features Frankenmuth's World Expo of Beer 5-10pm Friday, May 17 and 3-10pm Saturday, May 18.

Named one of ten "must see" markets in Michigan by Michigan Travel Ideas, the FFM is a producer-only market supporting local farmers, a sustainable and diverse local food system, and the regional economy. Live music sponsored by Frankenmuth Credit Union, adult and children events, and artists create a festival of community each Market day. A few of the regular monthly events will include a first-Saturday-of-the-month "bag ban" to reduce the use of plastic bags and a third-Saturday-of-the-month Harvest for the Hungry (fresh or pantry food/monetary donation for Hidden Harvest). A midsummer Market Magazine, an extended Wednesday Market season, and plans for ambitious, collaborative events mark continued growth for this ninth season. Dates, times, and locations are as follows:

  • Saturday Market: 8am-1pm May 18-October 19, 618 S. Main St. in Downtown Frankenmuth
  • Wednesday Market: 3pm-6pm June 12-September 25, 580 N. Main St. at Frankenmuth Credit Union
  • Pig Roast Sponsored by Zehnder's: Saturday, August 17 at the Downtown Market
  • Annual Feast of the Harvest Moon Dinner: September 17 at Zehnder's Restaurant
  • Christkindlmarkt: 11am-8pm Friday and 10am-6pm Saturdays & 11am-5pm Sundays, November 29-30 and December 1 & 7-8, 618 S. Main St. in Downtown Frankenmuth

The Market is looking for set-up/take-down and booth volunteers, as well as $25 or $50 donations to sponsor daily events (which can be mailed to Laurajeanne Kehn, 11585 King Rd., Frankenmuth, MI 48734). The Market accepts credit and debit cards along with Bridge Cards and EBT. Consumers interested in receiving the FFM's email newsletter can email dbronner@chartermi.net. More information can be found at www.frankenmuthfarmersmarket.org. The Market is a proud charter member of the Michigan Farmers Market Association, which anyone can join to help move farmers markets forward by visiting www.mifma.org.
