City of Bay City Receives Salt Freighter - Still Awaiting Pepper Ship.

The 640 foot freighter, the Algorail, finds itself marooned in downtown Bay City between the Liberty Bridge and Veterans Bridge. The Algorail was hauling a shipment of Salt to Zilwaukee.

Plans are underway to either tow the freighter out or unload a portion of its cargo onto a barge.

The Algorail is 640-feet 5-inches long and has a capacity of 23,750 tons. The freighter is owned by St. Catharines, Ontario-based Algoma Central Corp.
