Vacation Treasure In Downtown Bay City

Friday At The Falls Runs Through August 23

July 27, 2013

Imagine for a moment you are on a vacation to some waterfront community. As you stroll down the street one evening, you come across a group gathered by the water's edge.

As you get closer, music, familiar music, emanates from the gathering.

As you are about to enter the gathering, you stop briefly to grab some homemade caramel corn, ice cream or your favorite chocolates. Arriving, your toe starts taping and soon you find yourself leaning back on the railing, gazing at the waterway silently mouthing the words to Bob Seger's Turn The Page.

With your arm gently around your partner, you silently wish you could do this back at home.

A beautiful evening to enjoy together.

Every Friday night throughout the summer, Downtown Bay City presents a free casual concert at the 3rd Street Waterfall Park. This is an hour or so concert that starts at 6 PM allowing visitors to just hang out by the water's edge, enjoying the watery ambiance on a summer's eve as a kick off to the weekend. All this is free but you are welcome to toss a few bucks into the performers' hat.

The Toyz was the featured band this week. Original members, Marty Reinhardt and Dale Levasseur have been delighting audiences since the mid 80s with guitarists Tom Randall and Ron Bloomfield rounding out the band. With a solid Bob Seger presence, they also strummed tones from Tom Petty, The Beatles and Pink Floyd to name a few. An encore request brought about a classic from the Doors and before you knew it, ladies were out dancing in the center. You just couldn't help yourself which is a good thing.

Sometimes you just can't help but dance.

  • August 9 featuring on of Bay City's premier singer/song writers in Andy Reed,
  • August 16 is folk music by Jeff Yantz and the No Name String Band
  • August 23 features the Josh Ramses Band.

This past Friday was a real treat. With storm clouds looming in the west, the crowd assembled and for good reason. With comfortable temperatures, an easy breeze and familiar fan favorite music, it was a very delightful evening to kick off the weekend. Whether you pulled up a lawn chair, hoped on the brick border, or just ventured onto the pier to look over the river scene, the music was enticing and a good time for all. Truly, this is a vacation experience in our own back yard.
