New Child Abuse & Neglect Protocol To Be Signed.
October 3, 2013
By: Josh Sharrow
The new protocol governing the investigation of child abuse and neglect cases in Saginaw and Bay Counties will be signed Thursday, October 17 at 5:00 pm at The Bay City Country Club (7255 S. Three Mile Road).
Law enforcement, children's protective service workers, school administrators and human service workers will sign their agreement to follow the new protocol.
John McColgan, Saginaw County Prosecuting Attorney, says, "It is with great anticipation that my office looks forward to working with the CAN Council's Children's Advocacy Center under the new guidelines established by this Protocol.
With these new standards, law enforcement will be able to satisfy our goal of proper and effective investigation, while reducing the trauma to the child victim and his or her family by subjecting the child to a minimal number of interviews and always being mindful of providing protection, specialized treatment, and continuing support for the abuse victims and their families.
These new guidelines will provide an invaluable tool in successfully prosecuting cases involving children."
Members of the media and the public are welcome to join CAN for the commemorative signing of the protocol. Please reserve a seat by emailing cancouncil@cancouncil.org.
The Children's Advocacy Center provides a safe, supportive environment in which children who have been sexually or physically abused can be interviewed and examined. To learn more about the Children's Advocacy Center, contact Cynthia Morley, CAC Program Director, at (989) 752-7226.
