International band Like A Storm brought their hard hitting rock and soulful ballads to life onstage at Flint's famous The Machine Shop recently and played to an appreciative crowd of Michigan friends and fans.

The Brooks brothers, Kent, Matt and Chris, have gained a solid Michigan and mid-west following in recent years and have made several stops in Bay City, MI as well.

A staple whenever they are out on tour is The Machine Shop, which boasts a unique setting to see concerts and is a favorite venue with many national and Michigan bands.

Concert goers from all around Michigan and nearby states love the atmosphere, sound and the intimate feel in which to see bands. Friday, November 1, 2013 was no exception when LAS headlined the evening and brought their explosive sound to the stage. Touring with them is drummer Garrett Whitlock of Tremonti's Project.

Kent Brooks, bassist and the oldest of the brothers explained why they love this venue so much. "When we first moved to Vancouver we kept seeing The Machine Shop t-shirts on big bands such as Default and Nickelback." He went on to say, "We asked them "what is this place??" and when we heard it was located in Flint, MI, we thought this was just about as far away as we could be from our birthplace of New Zealand".

"When we walked in to the place, we got it". Kent added, "We thought it was the coolest venue. We've played here three other times and try to make it a stop whenever we are out on tour".

The band recently pulled up roots again and made the move from Vancouver to Toronto, Canada and when they are not working in the studio writing and producing new music, they have been out on tour.

Currently, the band is out promoting their new music on the 'Love The Way You Hate Me' tour.

Although the brothers are a long way from home and miss their family and friends, they enjoyed that their parents recently made the trip from New Zealand to Toronto. "We got to spend about four weeks out on the road with our Mum and Dad and that was really great", said Chris Brooks.

When asked what it is they miss most about the things their mother cooked back home, Chris, Matt and Kent all laughed and replied with a variation of, "It being on the table at 6 o'clock!". Kent, who remarked he actually likes to cook added, "It's a little hard out on tour when we're eating out of diners and gas stations".

In spite of the rigors of living out on the road, it's easy to see that these Brooks brothers are dedicated to doing what they love--making music. They pour their heart into every performance and once again gave the guests what they came for. Heavy rock, talented vocals and their signature style of friendly mingling with fans after the show.

"We love our Michigan fans!", said Matt Brooks.

It's safe to say, we love them too.

Wonderful article and pictures Diane. You do amazing work. Glad to see Like A Storm getting coverage when they are in the area. They're a fantastic band and the most down to earth people. Anyone who is a fan of rock should give these guys a listen.
