15 year old Madeleine Gallagher of Bay City, a 10th grade student at John Glenn High School, and her 20 year old partner, Jonathon Horton of Clawson, competed last week in East Lansing at the the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Midwestern Sectional Championships.
They placed 1st in their short program and 2nd overall, earning them the silver medal and a chance to compete in the novice pairs division at the 2014 Prudential U. S. Figure Skating Championships to be held in Boston, MA, January 5-12.
They finished 8th at the national championships last year and are hoping to place higher this year and attain a possible international Junior Grand Prix assignment next fall.
It is an especially exciting year, since the Team USA Olympic representatives will be chosen in Boston in the senior division to compete in Sochi, Russia in February.
Gallagher/Horton train at both the Bay County Civic Arena and Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills and are coached by Craig Joeright of Royal Oak and Teri Haag of Midland along with other supporting coaches/trainers both on and off the ice.
