Skilled Nursing Facility to Show Off Expanded Facilities for 206 Residents

Bay County Medical Care Facility is shined up and ready to go for Oct. 26 open house.

Bay County Medical Care Facility, a skilled nursing facility in Hampton Township, recently completed a renovation/construction project.
The new addition provides 206 residents semi-private rooms and improvements such as an expanded chapel, dining and recreation areas.
An open house will be held Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 12 noon until 3 p.m., announced Frederick Richard Dryzga, board chairman of the facility, adding:
"We are looking forward to showing off the additions and the improved facility that have vastly improved the quality of life for our residents."
Other board members are J. Donald David and Jane F. Smith.
The facility, on the site of the former "Bay County Poor Farm," was originally erected in 1964. It houses persons ranging in age from 24 to 102, with average age of 81. The facility provides long term care and is successful in providing many residents with the skills to return home.
The approximately $5 million project adds over 25,000 square feet to the existing building. All of the four bed units were upgraded to semi-private rooms along with an addition of 32 new semi-private rooms.
The Resident's Council had input into the plans for the expansion and renovation of the facility. "We tried to make the living quarters according to their suggestions," said Brenda Burzynski, administrator.
Large sitting rooms have been added to each floor of the two new wings and are popular with residents who want to socialize or get a view of the outdoors. "This gives the residents four new areas to enjoy the outside scenery," said Mr. David.
A new entrance drive and pavilion allows convenient, handicapped accessible entry and exit for visitors and residents and keeps them out of the weather," noted Ms. Smith.
William A. Kibbe & Associates, Saginaw, was the engineering-architectural firm on the project. Contractors included Wobig Construction, Saginaw; Clements Electric, Bay City; and Mid-State Plumbing and Heating, Mt. Pleasant. Lowell Myers, Architect, served as Project Manager.
