WIOG's Leaping Lizard Run & Walk

Introducing the kids fun run!

June 10, 2014

The 5th year and running...

WIOG's Leaping Lizard run & walk race debuted a kids fun run this year. If you are unfamiliar with this race it takes place in down town Bay City benefiting the Food Allergy Research & Education organization.

FARE helps 1 out of every 25 children with food allergies and that's not all... FARE was organized in 2012 as Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis (FAAN) and Food Allergy Initiative (FAI) merged together.

Do you know anyone with food allergies? Research shows that up to 15 million Americans have food allergies! Think about this: deadly food allergies affect 1 in every 13 children (18 & under) and the number of people with food allergies is growing.

FARE's mission is to help find a cure! It is also important for people who don't have food allergies to know about them... You could potentially keep your friends or family out of harms way by learning to use an epi pen in case of emergencies.

There are eight foods that account for the majority of all allergic reactions. Those foods are milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, fish and shellfish.

For more information please visit www.foodallergy.org. If you would like to see more highlights of this year's WIOG's Leaping Lizard run and walk visit www.WIOG.com

Great job runners, WIOG & Cumulus Media, United Financial Credit Union and everyone who helped in this event. Hope to see you again next year!

Keep running towards a healthy life...
