Thinking Out Loud
Shine On

I've never seen a moon in the sky that, if it didn't take my breath away, at least misplaced it for a moment.
Colin Farrell

We had a good run and I knew this day would come.

For 13 Harvest Moons in a row, since my son was was 4 1/2 years old, we made an event of watching the Harvest Moon. It usually involved pizza and soda by the river and a competition of who would first see the big beautiful Harvest Moon begin to ascend on the horizon.

Even though we still had plans and good intentions for our annual tradition this past week, his date with Mom was bumped for date with a nice girl and shopping trip with her instead.

I understood. Life is moving along as it should for him.

They did however, come back to the house, long after the moon had risen and we spent some time together. The conversation was good and we had some laughs about a variety of things.

I ventured outside to my deck a little later to take a few moments to enjoy the big beautiful glow high in the sky, alone, as I listened to 2 giggling young adults inside the house.

The winds of change gently blow us on new paths and in new directions and we have be ready and willing to flow with them. I realized, it didn't mean our tradition has died, it has just been altered like the sands on the beach from an ever shifting tide.

The moon was just as gorgeous as it has been every Harvest Moon and my boy is still laughing and happy.

Life is good.
