Wade Lodewyk's second annual "Things That Go Bump in the Night" Film Festival, is scheduled 7-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, and 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at the Westown Theatre, 611 E. Midland St. on Bay City's West Side.

A meet-and-greet with the filmmakers will take place in the Diamond Ballroom, following the Oct. 17 screenings.

Tickets are $5, good for both days.

"The 'Killer Shades' trilogy concept is very cool," said Lodewyk. "Each movie is based on a person who somehow comes into ownership of a pair of sunglasses that have a dark power. Each movie is linked by the glasses, but each director developed their own script without knowledge of what happened in the other movies."

Lodewyk's goal is showcasing Michigan filmmakers in the festival.

"Initially, the festival was organized to give local movie makers an opportunity to show their projects on a big screen in a public venue," said Lodewyk. "With the success of last year's festival, we were encouraged to do it again."

Block 1

? "The Dark Side of Life" ? Directed by Eric Loubert of Gladwin, the movie is based on four of Edgar Allen Poe's more obscure poems.

? "Killer Shades: The Ronnie Blu Obsession" ? Directed by Colton Hayward of Munger, it's about a man who makes a deal to meet his dream woman and gets more than he bargained for.

Block 2

? ? By 5" ? Part two of the "Killer Shades" trilogy. Directed by Allan Harvey of Jackson, a serial killer picks the wrong target and finds himself the hunted.

? "Luka" ? Part three of the "Killer Shades" trilogy. Directed by Michael Vilegas of Lansing, the film offers up John and Andy who meet Luka at a local pub. A night out with a couple beers goes very, very badly.

? "Under the Bed" ? An Even Keel Production. While getting ready for bed, a little boy discovers there is indeed something under there.

Block 3

? "He's Talking" ? Directed by Michael Welborn of Bay City. A small town detective investigates a series of violent crimes, but may be getting too close to the case.

? "The Pale Magician: Chapter 3" ? Directed by G.C. Kirkland of Bay City. Taken from the film project, "The King in Yellow," it's a bizarre and twisted look at a Y2K scenario.

? "Rehearsal" ? Directed by Nic White of Bay City. A young man practices and practices a gruesome task until he gets it right."

Lodewyk said he plans to add a second festival this spring, with an open genre.

"It can be a comedy, musical, a two-minute documentary about something that happened in Bay City," he said. "Not everyone wants to make suspense movies."

He is hoping, however, that a couple more people will step up to the camera lens and offer up parts four and five of the "Killer Shades" series.
