Bay City's Saginaw River waterfront and a "ghost captain" who haunts the Veterans Memorial Park area are featured in a Public Broadcasting Service special presentation tonight, Thursday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m.

The presentation is one of an Emmy-nominated series called Ghosts and Guardians of the Great Lakes III: Lighthouses and Legends of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

The one hour production airs statewide. "The special provides a dramatic inside look at the "ghost" stories of shipwrecks of years past," says Tom O'Boyle of PBS, adding:

"Representing the "guardians," the program also provides a close-up view of the historic lighthouses along Huron's Canadian and American shores."The "ghost" of Bay City is played by Tommy Anderson, local musician, magician and actor. Other local people may be part of the documentary, filmed last summer by a crew from Grand Blanc headed by Dennis Serra of Great Sand Bay Productions.

"In addition to the PBS presentation of Ghosts and Guardians, a companion DVD is being made available, with highlights of the trip and interactive features that bring the drama to life," says O'Boyle.

He summarizes: "For those inspired to take the tour themselves, a map and directions are a click away on the internet at www.ghostsandguardians.com. "Dramatic footage and lore combined with the interactivity offered by both the companion DVD and web site make Ghosts & Guardians: Lighthouses & Legends of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay even more enjoyable than the first two shows."###
