The State History Conference, sponsored by the Historical Society of Michigan, is scheduled to be held Sept. 22-24 in Bay City.

This will be the first time for the prestigious event in Bay City, according to Larry Wagenaar, executive director of the East Lansing based group.

Members of the committee planning the event are Wagenaar, Dr. Ben Pederson, a board member of the State Historical Society; Gay McInerney, executive director of the Bay County Historical Society; Suzanne Pederson, Sue David, Gay McGee, Dee Dee Wacksman and Dave Rogers.

About 150-200 history enthusiasts from around the state are expected to attend, along with many local members of the Bay County Historical Society.

This year the event was at Kellogg Center in East Lansing in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of Michigan State University.

Activities will include a president's reception at the Bay County Historical Museum on Friday night, Sept. 22, banquets Friday and Saturday nights, tours and a variety of local and state history presentations.

Local history researchers, authors and speakers will be involved as keynoters and presenters in breakout sessions and workshops.

Topics will likely includearchitectural history, maritime history, building restoration, lumbering, the history and proposed adaptive reuse of the Industrial Brownhoist buildings, the Saginaw River Rear Range Lighthouse and River of Time.
