Clothing Drive for Preemies in Need of Donations.

January 16, 2015
By: Josh Sharrow

Thankfully, most mothers deliver full term, healthy babies with very little problems. Some mothers, however, are not that fortunate and give birth to premature babies, and the little ones are required to spend some time in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Organizer Christi Bauman knows about this experience first hand. "My son was born prematurely and I was not prepared with the right clothing for my preemie! This is the reason for this clothing drive, so that parents who have smaller babies will have appropriate clothing for them while staying at the NICU." said Bauman

"The clothing at the NICU is way too big for a baby born weighing 3 to 5 pounds. Even most 0 to 3 month clothing fits a baby with an average weight of 7 to 9 pounds." said Bauman Having the clothing that fits the babies properly during their stay in the NICU, can help "normalize" the parenting experience.

For the sixth annual PJs for Preemies organizers are collecting clothing for the NICU at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw. The clothes must snap or button front ONLY; no zippers. In order to accommodate for wires and tubes. New or like new preemie and newborn clothing will be accepted(sizes preemie through 3 months). Pajamas and sleep sacks are also needed. Most sleep sacks have zippers and that is acceptable.

Graff Chevrolet has once again graciously offered to match whatever donations PJ's for Preemies collect. All donations will become the property of Covenant hospital and will remain in the NICU for any babies while they are being treated.

If you are interested in donating, please drop off your donations at Graff Chevrolet Bay City. If you would like to donate but are not near a drop off location, please send donations to:
