Still Got A Lot of Living To Do

I got my eye on you, little one. And I hope to be watching you for many years to come.

Not sure why . . . But someone asked me the other day about my "Death Clock."

Hadn't thought much about it recently. But I used to talk about it a lot . . . I think they call that "Gallows Humor."

Back on my 60th birthday (In 2007), I remember taking stock as far as life expectancy was concerned. I remember reading once . . . "If you double your age and then can't imagine doing the same things you're doing today . . . then you're unquestionably "Over The Hill."

At an imagined 120 years old, that ship had certainly sailed.

Still wondering "how long I had left," back in 2003, I browsed the INTERNET until I stumbled upon www.deathclock.com

Don't go there.

I'll share what I found at www.deathclock.com

I found out that my "time would run out" on September 16, 2016. (Right in the middle of Salmon Season) -- I thought to myself -- People will say "At least he died doing something he liked."

At age 60, that future 2016 date was still 13 years into the future . . . 13 years is a considerable amount of time . . . so hey, what the heck?

Never looked at it again until . . . (DRUM ROLL) . . . The Birth of my first grandchild.

Penelope Grace Reynolds (Daughter Jessica & Husband Zane) came into the world on February 13, 2015 -- Just 16 days ago. When I saw that little bit of fluff for the very first time, all I could think about was enjoying the next few years . . . watching little Penelope grow into a beautiful little girl and then into a teen and then a young woman.

Crap . . . It hit me like a ton of bricks.

What he hell was that date that the Death Clock said my time was up? I knew it was September . . . But was it 2016? or 2017?

Say What?? . . . That's like next year or just two years down the road.

I clicked with clammy fingers and logged back onto the Death Clock site and filed in my "numbers" again and clicked send . . .

Good News!

It seems that at 60 years, you can only expect to live to 73.

But now, according to Death Clock, since I made it to 70, odds are now in my favor to make it to 78 (Unfortunately, my date is still September 2023 and still in the middle of Salmon Season.)

But then, Bad breath is better than no breath. Or (as the saying goes) don't look a gift horse (of 5 years) in the mouth.

Eight years more is certainly better than only three.

So things are looking up.

And hey, one thing sure . . . I'm now planning to stay around as long as I can to see this little "fluff bunny" grow into something beautiful . . . that's bound to resemble either her (Penelope's) mom, Jessica . . . or her (Penelope's) Grandmother, my wife Donna.

I guarantee one thing sure, I'm not checking the damn Death Clock site again until I reach age 75.

I'm pretty sure that by then, I'll have a damn good shot at 83 years.

Penelope will then be 13.

Imagine that . . .

At that point, I might as well shoot for 90.

Dan Schmidt is right again -- Thank the Lord for Grandkids.
