When manager Tony Jeske offered a spot, for me and my wife at The VIP Party for Tavern 101, the fat kid in me squealed like a pig.

All week long a small countdown timer in the back of my head was keeping track of the anticipated day.

Once again, Owner Dave Dittenber and his staff did not disappoint. Tavern 101 is an incredible space in The Mill End building. The space is modern, inviting, cozy, comfortable and even a bit nostalgic. When arriving at Tavern 101 you are greeted by the old elevator door from Mill End.

After speaking to a few of the other guests, I knew we were in for an incredible meal. Rod Schank and his wife Kristin raved about their experience. "Kristin and I were fortunate enough to get to experience Tavern 101 tonight. Dave Dittenber and his crew have hit another home run for Bay City. The food was amazing, staff was informative and obviously excited about their jobs." said Schank.

"The long island ice tea was perfect and we had a wonderful dinner. I highly recommend the Tavern for your next night out. Thanks again Dave, Tony Jeske, and 101 staff." Schank continued.

Our waitress, Katie May, was informed, prompt, approachable and extremely attentive. Which left me questioning "Has this been open for a few days already, and Tony Jeske just felt bad, and decided to make a pity VIP party?" Seems like the kinks are all worked out already.

Katie May brought us a Pesto & Olive Oil mixture for our bread. I'm immediately impressed by any restaurant who brings bread. Next up was our salad, even the salad was above average.

After looking at the reasonably priced menu, we were ready to order. Of course, ladies first, my wife (Heather) ordered the stuffed ravioli. The ravioli stuffed with Pat LaFrieda Sausage and Broccolini in a brown butter sauce. Judging from the millimeter size bite I got to take, it was GREAT!

I ordered the braised pork which is served on a bed of polenta, a celery and carrot demi-glace on top. It was incredible! The pork perfectly braised and the polenta. . . actually let's talk about polenta for a minute.

Quote me.

Katie May came back to ask if we were ready for desert.

Ready?

Desert is the reason I woke up this morning. (I didn't know how good the polenta would be.)

We ordered an Espresso Bread Pudding. Yes, I said it, Espresso Bread Pudding. I was careful to take pictures of each item we ordered to put in this article, before I could get my phone out my wife had split up the desert 60/40. Seriously, Espresso Bread Pudding, three of my favorite things all wrapped up in one. Katie May let me take a picture of another guests Espresso Bread Pudding, while guarding it with her life in fear I might grab a spoon.

Overall, Dittenber has once again invested in Downtown Bay City, and has created another top notch, 5 star dining experience. Tavern 101 will be a staple in Downtown Bay City and the Great Lakes Bay Region. Tavern 101 officially opens for business June 12th.

Congratulations to Dittenber, Jeske and their entire staff on Tavern 101. More importantly THANK YOU for your commitment to Bay City and THANK YOU for polenta.
