Thinking Out Loud
Dear Santa

"It was a stark choice: shoes or food; beauty or sustenance; the sensible or the self-indulgent. "I'll take the shoes," she said firmly."
Alexander McCall Smith, Tea Time For The Tradionally Built

I started Chrsitmas shopping this week.

In my usual "one for them two for me" fashion.

I can't help it.

I don't get a lot of opportunities to shop, online or otherwise and when I do I always end up with a few goodies for myself I'm sure Santa would want me to have. It goes without saying this is an expensive time of year for me.

The hoodie for my son, the two new cable knit sweaters for me. The potpourri for my friend, the two new holiday scented candles for me. The pretty earrings for my Mother, the two new necklaces for me.

Well, you're getting the picture here.

I'm really going to try and limit myself this year and focus on the people on my list and the things I think they would enjoy.

Christmas is about giving.

To others.

I will keep this thought firmly in my head as I continue on in my quest to find the perfect gifts for those I love. I will forego the things for myself that I don't really need. I will strive to make this holiday season a fiscally responsible one.

Unless someone puts shoes on their list.

Then I'm in big trouble.
