The Bay Arts Council provided another superb evening of entertainment for this week's Wednesday in the Park. It was the hottest weather week yet, but a good size crowd still came out for The Baytones, a 16-piece swing/jazz band and Switchback, a duo with American Roots and Celtic Soul.

According to the Bay Arts Council's web site, "The Baytones have been playing Mid-Michigan venues since 1996. They are repeat winners of the Review Magazine "Best Big Band" Award, as well as the winner of the 2010 Freeland Freedom Festival Battle of the Bands. The members are all current, former, and future music educators."

The Baytone band didn't have to work very hard to "warm up" the crowd on one of the hottest days of the summer.

Switchback came on next and the crowd kept right on dancing. Their facebook page describes Switchback music as "showcasing a repertoire ranging from sentimental ballads to blistering rockers, the duo delivers a powerful sound rivaling that of larger ensembles. While their musical paths have taken them to a variety of genres, Martin and Brian have never abandoned their traditional Celtic roots." Next Wednesday, July 27 Parrots of the Caribbean-A Tribute to Jimmy Buffet will play followed by Phil Dirt & the Dozers on August 3rd.
