There is nothing like going out with a win on Senior night. The win becomes that more memorable when not only do you hang on for the win, but you withstand the charge from a strong rival like Mt. Pleasant. That just what the Lady Wolves did Tuesday night as they built a big lead only to be tied late and finished off the Oilers for a 46-42 win.

The game started off slow as both teams resisted pressuring the ball full court and were content to play a half court game. Sophomore Leah Humes controlled the tempo as she walked the ball up court slowing the momentum down then slashed to the basket when the opportunity arose. Meanwhile Mt. Pleasant worked their pick plays creating open layups. While Central's Humes knocked down 6 points, it was 6 foot Rachel Reynolds that helped push the Lady Wolves to an early lead with a hook shot followed by a hook jump shot late in the quarter for a 12-8 lead.

Central picked up the pace by applying full court pressure after every basket and used a harassing defense to take control of the second quarter. The tough defense created numerous turnovers resulting in open shots coupled with offensive rebounds to double their game output. Mt. Pleasant gain composure in the second half of the quarter and used rapid perimeter ball movement to create open lanes to stay close, 24-17 at the half.

The second half started with both sides exchanging baskets. Neither team gained an advantage until Mt. Pleasant switched to a high pressure full court press. The press seemed to catch Central off guard as they struggled to break the press slowing their offense and leading to Oiler opportunities. Mt. Pleasant then finished off the period strong hitting three unanswered long range jumpers to pull to within three points, 36-33.

The fourth quarter was nothing short of exciting. Both teams dialed up their game creating ebbs and flows throughout the final eight minutes. Just when it looked like Mt. Pleasant would catch and overtake Central, the Lady Wolves would pull back ahead. But the Lady Oilers were relentless and when Kaylyn Funnell found a seam and laid the ball in with 1:35 left to play, the game was all tied up.

Central responded by aggressively attacking the hoop drawing fouls. With both teams in the double bonus, Central took advantage of the extra free throw. Over the final minute, Desarae Lee, Leah Humes and Morgan Lochinski (twice) hit the back side of the bonus free throws to help Central pull out a 46-42 win.

Leah Humes of Central and Mt. Pleasant's Kaylyn Funnell lead all scorers with 16 points.
