BAY CITY - Earlier this month All Saints Central Middle & High School was honored to receive the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club Brick Award, in recognition of the $1.1 million building improvements that were done last summer. Funding for the project came from supportive donors through Phase I of the Legacy of Faith campaign.

The Brick Award was developed by the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Club "to recognize the contribution a business makes to the community when it constructs, expands, or renovates its facility." Either interior or exterior improvements that show a commitment to the Bay Area qualify a Bay County business for a Brick Award. The improvements must have been completed "within the year prior to nomination" to be considered for the award.

All Saints Principal, John Hoving, and Bay Area Catholic Schools Administrator, Michael Knoff, were on hand at the Chamber's Eye Opener Breakfast Meeting held at Bay Valley Resort on Tuesday, March 6 to receive the Brick Award.

Also in attendance was Mary Ann Deschaine, Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Saginaw. "Investing $1.1 million into All Saints Central Middle and High School shows Bay Area Catholic Schools' and the Diocese of Saginaw's long term commitment to Catholic faith based education in our area," stated Michael Knoff.

Building enhancements included a new heating and ventilation system, as well as new ceilings. The project employed area contractors and was designed with environmentally friendly building practices and materials. Hoving said, "Improvements of this magnitude are very encouraging for the staff and families of All Saints. They have enhanced both the facility and the atmosphere for those who enjoy teaching and learning here."

The Legacy of Faith campaign began in June of 2008 with a feasibility study to identify priority needs. Campaign co-chairs helped to secure generous donations for phase one of the project with teachers and school staff being among the first to support the initiative.

The project was identified and fully funded by local benefactors within the Bay County community. The major gifts campaign had been announced in May 2011 by the Most Rev. Joseph R. Citstone, Bishop of Saginaw. Bay Area Catholic Schools (BACS) continue the Catholic school tradition begun here in the 1850's, now providing 3-year-old preschool through 12 th grade faith-based, solid academic education.

BACS employs more than 50 people and functions as a "system" of Catholic schools. BACS students provide thousands of hours of community service and outreach here in the Great Lakes Bay Region and beyond.

Graduates of BACS consistently score well in standardized testing, surpassing all area public school averages. BACS is spiritually and financially supported by the 13 Vicariate IV parishes listed at upper left of page 1. To learn more about BACS, log onto www.bacschools.org
