Oh my gosh! I just saw "Spotlight". It finally made it to a Saginaw theatre.
What an incredibly intense movie. So well done. It is the true story of how the newspaper, the Boston Globe, uncovered the huge scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the Boston Catholic Archdiocese. This rocked the Catholic Church to its foundation.
The movie was easy to follow. The acting made you believe in the reporters and what they were trying to accomplish. Michael Keaton as the leader of the group Spotlight was very good. However, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams were the best they have ever been and have both been nominated for Best Supporting Academy Awards. The movie was also nominated for four additional Academy Awards, and rightly so. Best Picture, Director, Screenplay and Editing. I don't believe just because a movie is nominated or even wins an Oscar, that it will just naturally be a movie that I will think is great. However, this one is great! As an added bonus it also has Saginaw's own Brian d'Arcy James as another member of the team of reporters.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
