"The Mummy" was fun! Pretty much none stop action and lots of monster scenes.
Tom Cruise does a good job of playing a lovable rogue. He's a US soldier in Iraq who likes to look for treasure. His sidekick Chris, played by Jake Johnson, seems to be constantly worried about how much of what they're doing is illegal.
They discover a tomb containing an ancient Egyptian princess, Ahmanet played by Sofia Boutella, who was a sorceress. An archeologist, Jenny played by Annabelle Wallis, is brought in to help excavate the tomb.
She is employed by a Dr. Henry Jekyll played well by Russell Crowe.
It is a PG-13 with no swearing that I recall. There is humor that is well placed and doesn't feel forced. It won't win an Oscar for Best Picture but it should win for special effects.
There is going to be a sequel. It is also a restart of the Universal Monster movies. If this movie is any indication, they should be fun.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
