Garber's offense is built around the arm of Logan Martin. With an array of talented receivers, they can strike quick or control the ball with short passes and play action runs. Friday night the Dukes did just that as they scored from several ways on their way to a 56-7 conference win over Bridgeport.

Garber scored on their first possession. Taking over at midfield, Logan Martin targeted slot receiver, Dan Kolanek on two passes to bring the Dukes to the four yard line. From there, Martin connected with Jake Sansburn for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead.

Bridgeport answered the bell with a touchdown drive on their next possession. Working with sophomore talent of quarterback Tamar Heart and running back Andre Jackson, the two combined to run the option and the Bearcat offense down the field before Heart dashed in from the one yard line for a Bearcat score. A good extra point kick had Bridgeport on top 7-6.

When the ball was jarred loose on the following kickoff, Bridgeport looked to increase their lead as they took possession at the Duke 19. Garber's defense rose to the occasion as they stuffed the next two running plays before Brendyn Claerhout intercepted the ball at the goal line ending Bridgeport's drive. As Garber started passing their way out of trouble, Jackson intercepted a Logan pass at the Duke 35 and returned it to the 14. The Bearcat excitement was short lived as the Duke defensive line took charge. Senior Levi Britton pounced on a fumble and Garber had stopped another drive.

Garber wasted little time in taking control of the game from this point. Martin hit Kolanek down the visitor sideline as the speedy receiver had out run his coverage and scampered 83 yards for a touchdown. The two point conversion failed giving Garber a 12-7 edge.

Garber came out blitzing which stopped both the run lanes and passing forcing Bridgeport to another three and out. Then Martin hit Claerhout on a 44 yard touchdown strike that demonstrated the determination of the Duke offense. Claerhout received the nice pass over his shoulder then refused to go down as the defender had a good grasp on him thus breaking free and into the end zone for the score. Kody Wenglikowski broke up the middle for two points and Garber was in charge 20-7.

Garber took their next possession and marched right back down field. Following a 17 yard scamper by Martin, Jake Sansburn excited the Duke faithful by hauling in a pass and weaving his way through the Bearcat secondary for a 34 yard gain. Wenglikowski finished the drive off catching a Martin pass for a touchdown. Martin then scrambled around right end for the two point conversion and a 28-7 lead.

Garber scored once more on a 17 yard run before half time for a 35-7 lead.

It took only seconds for the running clock to take effect in the second half. Jake Sansburn took the kickoff and fought his way through the Bearcats for an 85 yard touchdown return and a 42-7 lead.

Bridgeport changed quarterbacks preferring to try an air attack of their own. But Dan Kolanek intercepted a pass and Logan Martin optioned his way through the Bridgeport defense for another score and a 49-7 lead.

After another Duke interception, Martin finished off his night with a nifty 54 yard keeper to end the Duke scoring and the night with a 56-7 Garber win.

On the night, Logan Martin was 15-24 for 253 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also ran 5 times for 96 yards finding the end zone two more times.

Slightly lost in the offensive onslaught was an impressive defensive performance as well. Levi Britton lead with Duke attack with 11 tackles including 2 sacks and a fumble recovery. Montena Owczarcak contributed 10 tackles himself for the Duke D.

Next Friday Garber hosts Frankenmuth in what should be a tough and exciting conference battle. To view more game photos, please go to http://koovsphotography.smugmug.com/Sports/Garber-2014-Football
