The Cool City Car Show kicked off their 21st year with a Friday evening Cruze For A Cure through the streets of Essexville and Bay City. This Cruze was not only to display their "rides" but to also bring attention to the cause of the American Cancer Society. But the Cool City Car Show is not your typical classic car or hot rod show.

This is a celebration of America's love for their automobile as every wake of car participated from the hottest new car to a street rod and especially to your classic restored jaw dropping muscle car. While the show affords the opportunity for car enthusiasts to see their dream machine and owners to show with pride their "baby", this is a show with a cause to help fight cancer.

Saturday, the Cool Cars dominated the downtown streets of Bay City as hundreds of cars filled the streets. Cars were lined up from the Delta Planetarium to Adams Street mainly down Center Ave, Washington and Water Streets. Starting at 9am, the public was treated to an up close and personal viewing of these magnificent cars. At 11am, the Exhaust Rapping Contest took center stage as participants sought to claim the prize of the loudest exhaust in the County. The streets rumbled at the roar of those cars. It could be said that Bay City has the River Roar, the sky roar in the Firework Festival and the Street Roar. At noon, the Green Machine 4-person team competition took place with teams racing against other teams on pedal pushing big wheel style tricycles.

While the event is show and roar and oh, much more, it also takes on a more serious purpose and that is the battle against cancer. Going into this weekend, the Show has raised over $188,000 for the American Cancer Society according to Mike Thelen. Mike is the show organizer and general manager of the Thelen Auto Group. Last year the Show brought in $30,000 and this year's goal is not only to top that amount but to go over the $200,000 mark in much needed funds for the American Cancer Society.

For this weekend, it was about the cars and the blood, sweat and "cheers" that go into restoring these vehicles. It's not just restoring a piece of history, it is preserving memories and sharing those memories with young and old for all to enjoy.
