BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The Bangor Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved and passed a 12-year tax abatement on a project by SC Johnson Home Storage, LLC. investing significantly in a facility upgrade and update at its Bangor Township facility committing to at least 25 new jobs over the next two years.

The estimated abatement and incentive package by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Bangor Township is near $2.5 million.

The new manufacturing facility will add nearly 50,000 square feet at the 488-acre site bringing with it more than 25 operators to the plant.

"We are proud to be making this major investment in one of our U.S. facilities and supporting economic development in Bay City and the State of Michigan," said Fisk Johnson, Chairman, and CEO of SC Johnson. "This expansion will help us meet increased customer demand for Ziploc®, a flagship brand in our product portfolio."

SC Johnson & Son Inc. is the parent company for SC Johnson Home Storage, LLC. who is responsible for the manufacture of plastic bags going under the brand name Ziploc®.

Glenn Rowley, Bangor Township Supervisor, strongly recommended the board's support in passing the abatement and was pleased to see investment at the facility.

"We take pride in the world-class companies, like SC Johnson, that call our Township 'home.' We also take a huge amount of pride in the quality workforce our residents make up. To see this type of investment and job creation is a testament to that," Rowley said.

Bay Future, Inc. (BFI), the county-wide economic development organization responsible for business retention, expansion, and attraction for Bay County, MI, began working on this project with SC Johnson in the 4th quarter of 2016. Bay Future, Inc. in conjunction with Bangor Township, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the company, to secure the investment in Bay County by packaging the incentives, assisting in the application process, helping to make the case to invest locally, and coordinating between all partners involved.

"There are very few communities who have multi-billion dollar companies in their backyard that continue to invest, continue to grow, and continue to hire local residents like we have with SC Johnson. They can invest anywhere in the world, literally, and we are thrilled that they continue to invest and grow here in Bay County," said Trevor Keyes, President, and CEO, of Bay Future, Inc.
