When things go wrong, don't go with them.
Elvis Presley

We have all had those weeks. They are inevitable.

Those weeks when everything you touch breaks, fun plans fall apart, the dog gets sick on the cream carpet and you break the heel of your favorite shoes. While you are walking in them, I might add, which leads to a skinned knee and bruised pride.

I guess it was my turn in the barrel this week.

I spent the better part of it cleaning the aftermath of a sewer back up into my basement. Anyone who has a basement knows my pain.

When I finally got to a point in the whole disinfecting process, that I could actually take a much needed break and meet with some friends, I proceeded to get ready.

Excited about finally receiving a reprieve from the bowels of my lowest living space, I tried out a new eye shadow in anticipation of getting prettied up and having some well deserved fun, woo hoo!

Instead, I had an allergic reaction and stayed home with a cold compress and puffy eyes.

I was battle fatigued and I really wanted to throw in the proverbial towel.

Then, a beautiful thing happened instead. A friend stopped by.

He didn't care about my inflamed red eyes, skinned knee and sour mood. We watched the sun set, best I could with those swollen eyelids that is, over a bottle of wine and we had an amazing conversation.

It struck me then.

Maybe the things we endure seem unbearable at times, but if we have at least one good solid friend to laugh with, it lessens life's blows and the things that go wrong can be put in their proper perspective.

At the very least, it can help us ignore the clinkity-clink noise the fridge just started making.
