Step 5, (AA) Admitted to God, to our selves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

This is our second action step and begins the journey of trusting someone else with our secrets. There is a saying that most of us are familiar with and if you have been in treatment for addiction know all too well. "We are only as sick as our secrets."

In our fourth step we wrote down our assets and flaws as well as people that have harmed us and that we have harmed. We found out what it is that has been bothering us as well as holding us back. Now we talk out loud exactly what was wrong about what we had done or what had been done to us. We may admit that we were selfish in many areas of our life. We may admit, finally out loud, that we were afraid. That fear may have been of failure, success, loneliness, crowds, or maybe being found out.

Whatever it was we admit it out loud and a wonderful thing happens. It may not happen right away or we may feel it quickly but there is a load taken off our shoulders. We are free of the secrets that we had been keeping. The bondage of self is starting to leave us self seeking is slipping away.

We do not suggest that we take this step with just anybody and not with our significant other, for this may harm them. We may want to do this with our sponsor for by now they have proven to be trustworthy. Another suggestion is to use someone of the clergy or a therapist you may be seeing. We are not telling our life story just the nature of the wrongs we have done in the past.

We are not in this alone and this step starts really showing us how the power of God and many can restore the life of one.

We at Family Hope Center have been here to help you since 1988 and will continue to be here for you. If you or a loved one is having problems with addiction or living with or being brought up in addiction contact us.

We have been there and want to help. 989-893-1165
