Chris Izworski
Whether it's a traffic situation, bridge closures, or a tornado warning, Bay County is taking steps to inform area citizens and make sure they're safe. That was the message from Chris Izworski, Emergency Management Coordinator for Bay County.

The Emergency Management department works Homeland Security to "mitigate, prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from" any of the many emergencies and disasters that can occur in the area.

In Bay County the new Bay Alerts system is an emergency mass notification system. It can notify citizens by phone, text and/or e-mail if there's an emergency. They coordinate with local 9-1-1 to get the word out.

The Emergency Management department recently bought the notification system and has put it in place. They can pinpoint any area within the county and broadcast messages and warnings.

Working with 9-1-1 has allowed the system to incorporate all land line phones into the system. Cell phones, text and e-mail notifications require that citizens log into the Bay Alerts system and sign up. The process is very simple and quick. It can be done from any Internet connected device from computer to tablet to smart phone.

Chis also outlined other emergency warning services provided by the county. This includes the sirens located around the county and the river front audio warning system. Much of this system was funded by Homeland Security grants.

Gena Gates presented a Paul Harris Plus 7 to Dee Dee Wacksman. Thanks Dee Dee for your dedication to the causes of Rotary.

Gena took the occasion to remind club members that a portion of contributions to the foundation comes back to the district. The funds are held for three years then 50% of the amount is sent to the district.

Thanks to Doug Rise who single handily cleaned up the Rotary Garden last week.

President Kim reminds everyone about how to contribute to the clean water campaign and contest:

Tim Holsworth provided an update on the Golf Tournament coming up on September 17. He read the various sponsors including the Title Sponsor Covenant Health Care, and Wildfire Credit Union, which is providing the flat screen TV as a special prize. If you have questions LINK to the Golf page on the club web site.

The International Night Team Captains will meet prior to the regular meeting, next week. That is: 11:00 Tuesday July 31.

The district is looking for a Rotarian to act as Team Leader for the Group Study Exchange (GSE)team that will go to South Korea March 29 to April 30, 2013. This is a great opportunity. If you're available and interested, please contact Kim.

July through December dues are now due. If you don't have your invoice, please see Secretary Steve Kent.
