When the third Thursday of September rolls around you won't find Phil and Sandy Paulus driving off into the sunset looking for adventure.

Instead, the Bay City residents will be looking for adventures closer to home.

"We always plan our September travels around Wine Walk," said Phil Paulus. "It's a Downtown Bay City tradition that is a great evening to enjoy the wines and food pairings that our fantastic downtown restaurants provide. It's also fun running into friends, neighbors, and former students and parents during the evening."

This year's Wine Walk runs from 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 15 at 14 area restaurants, and St. Laurent Bros.

Tickets are $30, which include two wine samples plus hors d'oeuvres from regions around the world at each place, are available at each participating establishment.

This isn't just an event for wine lovers, those who love good food will get their money's worth as well. Many of the restaurants offer water and pop for designated drivers as well.

For a complete list of participating businesses head to http://www.downtownbaycity.com/WineWalk2.htm.

Word to the wise, says Downtown Management Board executive director Candace Bales - get tickets early, this event is always a sellout.

Good wine and the food isn't the only reason people head downtown for the event - there is also the socialization component.

"(Because of devices) people are more connected and disconnected," said Bales. "People crave seeing someone they know, having a conversation. It's part of the charm of a walkable area like downtown. People will be looking up instead of down (playing Pokemon Go). as they walk the event. Checking out who's wearing what. There is a whole social component of being out with 15 other people."

Over those 18 years, Bales says there have been a few changes without changing the spirit of the night.

"We celebrate it still has legs," she said. "The restaurant component has gotten stronger and stronger. It doesn't mean they aren't competing, but they speak up about each other, realizing they are stronger together."

For example, new this year is Real Seafood Co. teaming up with Prime Event Center. "It's a big deal," said Bales. "They want to link with us. What a great way to connect the two (Downtown and Uptown) and have fun with it." For more information call 989-893-3573 for more information.
