I saw "Winchester."
Interesting but I don't need to see it twice.
Helen Mirren is always great. She stars as Mrs. Sarah Winchester. Jason Clarke really drove this movie as Dr. Eric Price. Sarah Snook was Mrs. Winchester's niece. The remaining actors do a good job also.
The story is based on actual facts. Mrs. Winchester was the widow of the inventor and owner of the Winchester company that produced the first repeating rifle.
She lost a baby daughter and then her husband. In her grief, she consulted a medium. She was told she needed to keep building on her house to keep the spirits of those killed by 'her' rifles happy. And build she did.
She started with an unfinished farmhouse in San Jose, CA and turned it into a mansion with about 161 rooms. It also included stairways going nowhere that rose to a ceiling, windows that opened to another room, not outside and doors that opened to walls. She had continuous construction from 1884 to her death in 1922.
The movie covers a few weeks in 1906. The board of her company wants her evaluated and found to be mentally incompetent to have any ownership in the company.
It's got a good story and to see the house, even if it was rebuilt on a soundstage, is fun.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
