I finally saw "Solo: A Star Wars Story". It was worth the wait. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you are a fan of the Star Wars franchise you'll learn some great background "facts." How Han and Chewbacca became friends. Chewbacca?s language is translated in subtitles. Where he gets the name Solo. The origin of the small dice Han has hanging on his ship. How Han acquired the Millennium Falcon. Why Lando Calrissian is his friend/enemy. It is a fun movie
Alden Ehrenreich does a great job as the title character. He even has Harrison Ford's smirk down pat. I like Woody Harrelson's part as Beckett, a kind of mentor to Han. Thandie Newton is Val, another member of Beckett's gang. Donald Glover does a fine job as Lando Calrissian. Joonas Suotamo is Chewbacca.
It begins on a lawless planet where Han is a member of a gang of orphaned youths who work for a thief. Here you meet his girlfriend, Qi?ra, played by Emilia Clarke. They are desperate to escape. The rest of the story revolves around this attempt and the fun "facts" I listed above. It's a good story, not particularly strong, but good. It's fun seeing Han and his background. We enjoyed it.
The special effects are good. The CGI aliens and puppets are fun too. Ron Howard does a good job, as always, directing.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
