We saw "The House With A Clock In Its Walls" over the weekend. It's a fun movie. I've always enjoyed Jack Black and Cate Blanchett.
They both looked like they had a ball making this.
The story is from the book of the same name by John Bellairs. It takes place in New Zeebede, Michigan which was based on Marshall, MI.
A young boy, Lewis played by Owen Vaccaro, is orphaned and sent to live with Uncle Jonathan, played by Black. He isn't sure he'll fit in and of course has trouble at his new school. The uncle is very different. His house is full of clocks. Some of the items there are obviously bewitched. He's a warlock.
There's a neighbor, Florence played by Blanchett, who is also a witch. Once Lewis is told the whole story he begins to help his uncle and Florence look for the clock in the walls that has the ability to bring about the end of the world.
It's a really good story. The special effects are great. The acting is too. Kyle MacLachlan lends his acting talents too.
It has been reviewed poorly because it wasn't a movie strictly for adults. Also, it was criticized for not being of the caliber of Harry Potter. I find these reviews as being much too picky. Look at the movie for what it's meant to be, fun, funny and well done.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
