Paul Wiese
Paul Wiese, our "Ten Minute Rotarian" last Tuesday, spoke to the club giving a brief overview of his life and experiences. Born and raised in Sebewaing, Paul was one of two brothers. He graduated from Sebewaing / Unionville Highschool.

Paul's mother was in Real Estate and his father was an insurance agent. Paul attained his own insurance license at 19, thanks to his Dad, so he can say he's literally been a practicing agent all his working life.

On graduating from high school Paul went to Hope College with the thought of becoming a doctor... until organic chemistry came up. Like so many students he changed his focus and moved to SVSU to pursue teaching. That led to a move to Northwood where he took a business management degree (much more to his liking and leanings).

After college, Paul got into the insurance industry and moved up in the "big company", corporate world. He met his future wife, also an insurance professional, and they started a family which now includes a (tall) son and two daughters.

In 2012 the couple decided it was time to leave the corporate world and start their own company. They cast about and ended up buying Northway Insurance in Bay City. Northway was founded in 1976 by Dave DeRocher and Dell Thompson. Paul and his wife purchased the company in 2014.

Originally a home and auto specialist, the Wiese's evolved the agency to handle both commercial and personal lines. The company has grown by 50% and recently moved to a new building on Midland Street across from Lumber Barons. They have opened offices in Gaylord and Grand Blanc and their goal is to become one of the top ten performing agencies in Michigan within ten years.

Paul and his family live in one of the large, historic homes on Center Ave. in Bay City. It's a home he passed many times as a young man and always felt he'd like to live there. Now he does!

Following District Governor Mike Elliot's suggestion, Anne signed up online for "My Rotary" where she is able to track her own giving history, which has brought her to the "Paul Harris Plus 3" recognition level.
