1st place winner was Devon Carr from Big Rapids winning an Orvis Access 11 Ft (6WT) switch rod. 2nd place winner was Robert Dick from Grand Haven winning a framed "What part of Flies Only don't you understand" print from David Ruimveld. Third place winner was Roy Wilson from Ludington winning a PM logo'd fly box loaded with a selection of Catch Flies. Carr won with a 28" Steelhead followed by Robert Dick's 21" Steelhead. Carr's fish measured 28 inches and the girth was 14 inches. Estimated weight was around 8 pounds.
Twelve (12) participants took part in the first-year competition. "Turnout was great for a first-year event," said Josh Mead, General Manager at the PM Lodge. Plans are already in the works for a 2015 December Winter tournament. "We anticipate next year's event to be even bigger and better especially with bigger prizes.
Carr caught the 28" Steelhead on an Apricot Glow Bug under an indicator. "I was using a 11 FT switch rod," Carr explained. "It was the second spot we stopped at," Carr went on.
Carr was paired up with good fishing buddy Mitch May for the Steelhead competition. "It was the first time that Mitch and I got to fish together since I have been back from Alaska," Carr explained. Carr went on to say that he and May had fished the run hard and we're considering moving to a new spot. "It was my last cast, and the bobber went down and it was Fish On," said Carr.
Carr said that (for him) a Winter Steelhead tournament is the perfect way to spend a December weekend on the Pere Marquette River. "I feel that the point of the tournament is just a really good excuse to get out of the house and go fishing," Carr said. "Hanging out and telling stories with all of the great people, that were in the tournament, is really what it's about for me," he added. "Winning the tournament was just an added bonus."
Carr won an Orvis Access 11 Ft (6WT) switch rod for his championship Steelhead. But, the second place winner was a young guy who really had his heart set on winning the rod. "I ended up switching prizes with him since he really wanted that Orvis switch rod," Carr said.
Carr pointed that Michigan anglers are very fortunate to have such an amazing river, like the Pere Marquette to fish -- with all of the different species. "It's just an awesome fishery," Carr added.

Very nIce O.J. thank you very much for the support. Only one minor detail, it was our 3rd annual tournament but no worries because you were right by saying we are going to make it bigger and better next year. Awesome article love the support and look forward to doing it again. If you feel the need to do more let us know and we can put something together, like maybe one of our schools possibly. Thanks again.
