Attorney General Mike Cox will talk about the national health care act debate at the Bay County Republican Party's Annual Lincoln Day Dinner Thursday, May 13.

Mr. Cox and Gov. Jennifer Granholm have clashed over Cox's initiative to join 12 other state attorneys general to sue the federal government to block the implementation of the health care program in Michigan.

The governor has been at odds with Cox, who said that he will join a Florida lawsuit that challenges the national health care reform bill. He said his action would be on behalf of Michigan's citizens and not the state's government. Granholm has said Cox doesn't have the authority to challenge the bill as an issue of the state.

Mr. Cox says: "Congress' attempt to force Michigan families to buy health insurance-or else-raises serious constitutional concerns ... We will fight to defend the individual rights and freedoms of Michigan citizens against this radical overreach by the federal government."

The Bay County Republican Party is offering a special "Meet and Greet" Reception with Attorney General Cox from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. prior to the dinner.

"Attorney General Cox has made a name for himself as a strong leader, willing to make bold moves," said Aaron J. Bayliss, county GOP chair. "We look forward to seeing you at the dinner. Working together, we can make the difference in achieving the goals and values of the Republican Party!"

Cost of a dinner ticket is $40 per person. A silent auction will be held. For further information or to purchase tickets please contact Mike and Lynn Rivard at 989-879-5685 or e-mail Mr. Bayliss at aaronbaylis@gmail.com. ###
