Bay County's six football teams covered by the Graff Chevrolet Grid Report are just about even, with an overall 11-12 record heading into mid-season games.

Three local teams have winning seasons going and one is even while two are on the losing side of the ledger. Besides Central (2-2) and Western (3-1), Garber is 3-1, Bangor John Glenn is 2-1, Pinconning is 0-4 and All Saints is 1-3 on the year to date.

Wins in Friday night's games pitting Bangor John Glenn's Bobcats against unbeaten Ogemaw Heights, Pinconning against Oscoda and All Saints against Bad Axe could put the local squads above the .500 mark if Garber, Central and Western continue winning ways.

The John Glenn offense hopes to put points on the board against Ogemaw Heights on the road.
(MyBayCity Photo by Maria Vos) John Glenn, a team that last week fell 19-10 to Standish-Sterling, sees a chance for redemption on the road at Ogemaw Heights, a West Branch area school.

Glenn was the North East Michigan Conference Champion with a 5-0 league record last year and has a proud heritage of tough football. Expect the Bobcats to growl and claw at Ogemaw, listed as fourth in the Associated Press Division 4 playoff rankings.

The Bobcats will face big-time passer Kevin O'Neill (200 yards, 3 TDs) and top rusher Mike Noffsinger (110 yards rush, 94 yards receiving) at Ogemaw. Hopefully, the Bobcats will mount the kind of defense and control the ball like the Tawas game they won 10-7 on Sept. 7.

Pinconning got rushing touchdowns from Barrett Penix and Ryan Kleinhans and another TD on a Penix pass to Brandon Delgado last week in a 46-22 loss to unbeaten Ogemaw Heights.

Last year the Spartans finished strong by extending Mt. Morris and beating USA to finish with a 2-7 record. A new spark is evident in Pinconning where voters recently approved construction of schools after many years of trying and Spartan backers hope community spirit will be reflected on the football field during the final weeks of the season. Oscoda's Owls are coming off a 72-0 drubbing at the hands of the Tawas Braves, having lost earlier to Ogemaw Heights 38-12, Elk Rapids 46-18 and Leroy Pine River 40-0.

Pinconning has shown it can mount offense with Penix at the helm and sports observers expect the Spartans to make a good showing against Oscoda at home.

Bad Axe, the Friday opponent for All Saints, is coming off a 34-28 squeaker against Cass City last week.
