The Cougars and the Red Hawks. The last time these two teams met, it was on the gridiron. All Saints won that day, and the varsity Cougar basketball team knew that if they wanted to beat them again; this time on the hardwood, they'd have to hang tough and not let up. The Cougars struck first with a 2-pointer from #34 Mario Walker. But the Cass City Red hawks struck right back, and half way through the 1st period the score was tied at a low 6-6. With the clock running, a last minute surge from the Cougars' offense gave them the early edge. Thanks to #14 Cameron Coburn's last second 3-pointer, the Cougars went into the second period up 20-12.

Defense defined the second period. Strong defense from both teams kept both teams attackers scrambling for any points they could dredge up. The Cougars were forced to work hard for each point they could tack onto their score. Big plays from #3 Aaron Janer, and #20 Adam Pijaszek broke the 25-16 standstill the game had been in for nearly three minutes, and kept the Cougars ahead 27-18.

After a rousing routine from All Saint's Pom Pon squad, it was time for the Cougars to come back out to protect their narrow lead; little did they know the Red Hawks were about to unleash a massive comeback effort.

Quickly seizing the momentum of the game, the Red Hawk's offense managed to even the odds with a couple of timely 2-pointers. With under four minutes left in the third period, the Red Hawks narrowed the Cougars lead to 31-30. But the stubborn Cougars dug in, and held their ground. Key free throws and breakaway shots from #5 Drew Janer, and a few more 3-pointers from Coburn kept the Cougars up 40-34 at the end of the hard fought third period.

The decisive fourth period was nothing short of an all out route. The Cougars pounded the tired Red Hawks; who had given everything they had to the third period, with well placed shots from all over the court. What Coach Mike Showalter later described as "sharp offense" was the reason for the Cougars victory. The Cougars claimed a 59-48 victory that upped their record to an an impressive 10-4.

Coach Showalter joked that the win was a result of "good coaching", but said later, (in all honesty) that the Cougars had some "great plays that were executed real well". The Cougars are now gearing up for the trip on Friday to face U.S.A. in what Showalter referred to as the "game of the season".
