The Great Lakes Loons hosted the high school baseball game between Garber and Standish-Sterling. While the players enjoyed the opportunity of playing on such a beautiful facility, it was the Dukes who took the most advantage of the diamond. Enjoying an explosive hitting attack coupled with sound pitching, Garber swept the doubleheader 12-2 in six innings and 12-2 in the night cap.

Garber jumped right on the Panther pitching in the first inning when shortstop David Laskowski stroked a home run with Shane O'Mara on base to put Garber in front 2-0. The Dukes added another run in the first when Lee Madziar singled Jordan Reames home for a 3-0 lead.

Garber struck for four more runs in the third when Nick Whitney singled home two runs and Shane O'Mara double in two more for a 7-0 lead.

The Panthers got on the board in the top of the fourth when they loaded the bases on a walk and two singles. Then Channing Spencer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Garrett Russell hit into a fielder's choice that resulted in a throwing error allowing the second run to cross the plate. Mike Schroeder then settled down striking out the next batter to strand the bases loaded.

Garber got one of the runs back in their half of the fourth when Kyle Connelly grounded to short bringing in Ryan Schultz from third.

Garber continued their hitting assault with three more runs in the fifth and a run in the bottom of the sixth to evoke the 10 run rule ending the game at 12-2.

Garber was led in hitting by David Laskowski who had a home run, single, two walks and was hit by a pitch. Mike Schroeder went the distance for Garber giving up two runs on two hits while walking one and striking out nine.

In the night cap, Garber was the visiting team and wasted no time taking control of the game. Shane O'Mara doubled followed by a triple by David Laskowski and an RBI single by Jordan Reames putting Garber quickly up 2-0. But they were not done scoring. After a dropped outfield fly ball, three straight singles by Tyler Sporman, Jordan Scherzer and Kyle Connelly, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Nick Whitney had the Dukes up by 7 before Standish-Sterling came to bat.

This was all the run support Jordan Scherzer would need as he gave up single runs to the Panthers in the second and fourth on his way to a victory.

Garber didn't settle for one good inning as they emptied their bench and those players looked to take advantage of their opportunity. Garber scored two more runs in the fourth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh.

Scherzer went the distance giving up two runs on four hits while recording six strikeouts.
