Trinity Episcopal Church announces details for its January Contemplative Evensong on Sunday, January 22, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. The Rev. Susan C. Rich will be the officiant and the service will be sung by soprano, Rayechel Berger. Other participants include Kyline Gray, acolyte; Ken Fowler, lector; and Robert Sabourin, organist.

Rayechel is the soprano section leader at Trinity. She is a graduate of Garber High School where she was active in the choral program under the direction of John Vandenboom. She earned a degree in vocal performance at SVSU where she was a voice student of Dr. Julie Meyer. Rayechel is also a private voice teacher.

Vocal music for the Evensong will include "Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis" (Plainsong with fauxbourdons) by Philip Moore (b.1943) and "Jesus, Shepherd, Keep Thou Near Me" by J. S. Bach (1685-1750). Organ music will include "Conditor Alme Siderum" by Gerald Near (b.1942), "Berceuse" by Louis Vierne (1870-1937) and "Conditor Alme Siderum" by Raymond Weidner (b.1947).

Hymns for the service are "Songs of Thankfulness and Praise" (Salzburg) by Jakob Hintze (1662-1702), harmonized by J. S. Bach (1685-1750), "O Gracious Light, Lord Jesus Christ" (Conditor alme siderum), plainsong, Mode 4, and "Thine Arm O Lord, in Days Of Old" (St. Matthew) from Supplement to the new Version of Psalms by Dr. Grady and Mr. Tate, 1708.

The music for the service is contemplative in nature. In addition, silence will be kept at specific places in the service and the church will display icons and lighted candles. The icons are being loaned to Trinity by Rev. Sharon Voelker of St. Alban"s Episcopal Church in Bay City.

The service is open to the public free of charge. Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 815 N. Grant Street on the corner of Grant and Center Avenue. Barrier free access if off the parking lot on the west side of the building. Friends of Music will host a reception in the Guild Room following the service. For more information call 989-892-5813.
