I saw the movie "Why Him?" My answer to that is: Why go?
The idea was okay but it had so many cringe-worthy moments I was in that position almost the entire movie. I did laugh on occasion but it was mostly out of embarrassment.
The plot was promising but it could easily have been a PG-13. The story was about a family from Grand Rapids whose daughter is going to college in California. They decide to visit her for Christmas after they find out she has a boyfriend. So they take a break from Dad's floundering business to visit.
They discover the boyfriend is a man/boy who is worth millions from inventing a video game. He is played by James Franco at his sleaziest. Bryan Cranston is her uptight father. He doesn't seem very comfortable in a second banana comedic role. Zoey Deutch is the daughter. She tries desperately to get her boyfriend to somewhat behave. Megan Mullally is a mom who takes advantage of a chance to let go. Griffin Gluck is the 15 year old brother.
If I had a dollar for every time the f-word, c-word, bodily functions or fluids were mentioned I could go to the movies every day for a year for free.
I know this type of sophomoric humor appeals to many. Just not to me.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
