We saw "Aladdin."
It was nice.
Sweet.
I liked it.
Slightly different than the original. Will Smith did not try to copy Robin Williams as the genie, but did equally as well. There was enough of Robin there for homage, but he made it his own.
The songs were similar. Jasmine, played by Naomi Scott, gets to be a woman with her own mind and world ahead of her. She wants to become sultan. It's a very nice change. Aladdin, played by Mena Massoud is just like the cartoon. Same attitude, same self-depreciation.
The singing is great. The only thing that bothered me was I felt the CGI of the Genie was a little off. He almost felt wisp-like during those times. Perhaps that was on purpose. Iago the parrot, Abu the monkey and of course the Carpet are all still there.
We enjoyed it. To me it didn't have the magic of the first one but that may be because I was spoiled by Robin Williams.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
