Well I just saw "Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark" for a second time.
This time I went with my 32 year old son. I terrorized his older sister with the books when she was young and she did that to him in turn. Fun stories, fun movie.
If you have ever read the stories it was based on you lived a full childhood. The illustrations in the books were amazingly macabre. What was fun was the creatures in the movie looked just like their illustration, except for one.
It begins with introducing 3 nerdy 10th or 11th graders. The girl, Stella, played by Zoe Margaret Colletti, is the more bookish of the three. Chuck, played by Austin Zajur, is the gross one. Auggie, played by Gabriel Rush, is the more "sophisticated" one. They meet a young man, 19 year old Ramon, played by Michael Garza who is a stranger just passing through town. It's Halloween so of course the three of them take him to a haunted house. The five stories are woven into a book they find in the house.
There are scary scenes, gross scenes and humorous ones. I'll admit I had to shut my eyes during the stew scene. The movie did leave itself open for a possible sequel. I'd go to that too.
So go. Have fun. Eat popcorn.
