I served on the EDSON from the Spring of 1969 through Dec. 1973. I did 3 WES-PACS on board her! On in 1970, 1971, and the last one in 1973> I think it was in 1972 we shot down a target air drone with the forward Gun Fire Control System. They sent up another drown, and the after system shot it down! They sent up a third drone, and as soon as we locked of it, it popped its parachute! We did not think much of it. A few weeks later, the EDSON got a letter stating that the EDSON was the FIRST ALL GUN SHIP ON THE WEST COAST TO SHOOT DOWN AN AIR DRONE! And the first ALL GUN SHIP TO SHOOT TWO DOWN IN ONE DAY!
