Annual "God Bless America" Patriotic Concert Planned

The Saginaw Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, The Anne Frisby Fitzhugh-Saginaw Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Trinity Episcopal Church will present their annual patriotic concert "God Bless America" on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Center at Grant, Bay City, MI.

Participants will include organists Nicholas Schmelter, Adrienne Wiley, and Scott Hyslop; Exultate Deo Chamber Choir, Robert Sabourin, director; and tenor soloist Keith Clifton.

The repertoire for the concert will feature patriotic hymns, choral music, and organ music all by American composers. Choral music will include "Hymn for America" by Stephen Paulus (1949-2014); "Ride the Chariot" and "Plenty Good Room" arranged by William Henry Smith (1908-1944); and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" arr. by Peter J. Wilhousky ((1902-1978). Tenor Keith Clifton will also sing "The Boatmen's Dance," and "At the River", and "Simple Gift" arranged by Aaron Copland (1900-1990).

Hymns that will be sung by the choir and audience include "God of Our Fathers" (National Hymn) by Daniel Crane Roberts (1844-1907); "The Star Spangled Banner" (National Anthem) source unknown; "My Country Tis of Thee" (from Thesaurus Mausicus, 1745); "Eternal Father Strong to Save" (Melita) by John Bacchus Dykes (1823-1876); and "American the Beautiful" (Materna) by Samuel Augustus Ward (1848-1903).

Organ music will include "An Evening Dance" by William Albright (1944-1998); "American Patrol" by F. W. Meacham (1856-1909); and "From the Land of the Sky-blue Water" by Charles Wakefield Cadman (1881-1946), arr. by Clarence Eddy.

The program is open to the public free of charge. Friends of Music of Trinity will host a reception in the Guild Room following the concert. Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 815 N Grant Street at the corner of Grant and Center Avenue. Barrier free access is from the church parking lot behind the church off 5th Street.
