Life has recently thrown a curve ball for Brent LaFramboise and his loved ones. Born with only one functioning kidney, Brent lived a seemingly normal childhood. However, when Brent turned 15yrs old and wanted to play contact sports, a doctors exam revealed that the non-functioning kidney had dissolved, requiring him to have annual check ups.

A decade had passed and 2 years ago, when Brent was 25yrs old, he began experiencing excruciating pain. This was determined to be Kidney Stones and treated as such. But the pain continued and Brent was taken to Covenant on an emergent basis for a CAT Scan and MRI. These tests would reveal the battle Brent continues to fight today.

The kidney that was believed to have dissolved a decade ago, was found in Brent's pelvic region through the Magnetic Resonance Image testing. Brent was then referred for surgery by Dr. Jensen, a Urologist located in the Tri-Cities and presumed to be cured. However, the pain did not subside and the battle continued for Brent.

This young man had no health insurance and the medical expense was mounting. This alone, can cause those in need to ignore warning signs of what can prove to be life saving procedures.

Two very special people would soon become angels on earth for Brent and his family. Brent's primary physician, Dr. Schisler of Bay City and Dr. Prasad, an established Nephrology specialist located in the Saginaw region.

On Labor Day weekend, Dr. Schisler referred Brent to Dr. Prasad who quickly uncovered that Brent had severe kidney failure. Brent's existing kidney was functioning at 17% at that time. Three weeks later, Brent's kidney function had dropped to 13% and continues to fail.

Brent is currently following a strict Renal Failure diet in order to avoid daily Kidney Dialysis treatments.

The family is grateful to both Dr. Schisler and Dr. Prasad. Had it not been for Dr. Schisler's diligent referral to Dr. Prasad, Brent may not be here with us today. Dr. Prasad has donated all medical procedures to Mr. LaFramboise. With the long awaited discoveries that have been made in regards to his condition combined with the fact that Brent has no health insurance, this could have been a recipe for disaster without their assistance.

Let this story be a positive and profound example that sincere generosity does indeed, still exist.

Brent states "Who knows what life has in store for us, now the most important thing is to find a donor with a match." Currently Brent's mother, Jody Nashatka and his sister, Stacey LaFramboise are awaiting the results from being tested to see if they are a match for their loved one.

The event had a wonderful turn out of support which sustained from the moment it began at noon until 6p.m.

Lori Dole, owner and operator of Castaways where the fundraiser was held offered her assistance to Brent when he came in to request that she hang a flyer for a blood drive weeks prior at Bangor Township Hall. Ms. Dole is eager to assist and has many more fundraisers in upcoming months on the roster for others currently in need.

Family members were quick to thank volunteers, friends and the waitstaff of Castaways for donating their personal time to the event. Waitstaff members included Billy, Melissa, Carrie, Angela and Jessica.

Doug Dore, of Dore Entertainment in Bay City, donated his time as the Auctioneer for the event on his birthday.
