The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce leads the national effort to get the Women's Federal Procurement Program established.

"Comparing women-owned businesses and male-owned businesses is like comparing apples-to-oranges, says SBA administrator, Preston

Recently the SBA published proposed rules for the Women's Federal Procurement Program that, if accepted, will block women business owners from fair access to federal contracts.

This particular Chamber was established to revolutionize the economic opportunities and impact of women. As the driving force of the Women's Economic Movement, the USWCC establishes strategies and tools, a bold new women's economic platform (USWCC | New Deal) and a community for progress (USWCC | Community). These forces come together to drive the Women's Economic Movement.

According to the U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce website, the Small Business Administration has finally published a proposed rule to implement the Women's Procurement Program. The SBA wrote this rule in such a way to assure that the intent of the program will not be served. The actions of the SBA and Administrator Preston are aggressively aimed at assuring that the women's set-aside program (devised by a bipartisan action of Congress and signed into law in 2001) will not serve its intended purpose.

Women business owners lose between $5-6 BILLION dollars EVERY SINGLE YEAR as the federal government fails to make its paltry 5% goal for contracting with women-owned small businesses.

The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce has lead the effort nationally to advance federal contracting opportunities for women and hold the SBA accountable for their seven year legacy of failure and subterfuge.

As stated on the U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce website, Administrator Preston has now publicly stated that women's businesses should not seek increased access to contracts because "comparing women-owned businesses and male-owned businesses is like comparing apples-to-oranges.", says Preston.

Many communities across the nation continue to struggle economically, including the Tri-Cities.

One way to foster economic development is through the $285 billion federal marketplace. Accessing federal contracts helps provide local small businesses with opportunities to expand and create additional jobs for local residents.

To bring full light to the issues surrounding the Women's Procurement Program and the failure of the SBA to enact the seven year old law that would serve to provide fair access to federal contracts for women-owned small businesses, the Women's Chamber delivered a detailed "Report to Congress" http://www.uswcc.org/report.pdf entitled, "Women Business Owners Blocked from Fair Access to Federal Contracts: The Small Business Administration's Seven Year Legacy of Failure and Subterfuge."

The U.S. Women's Chamber of Commerce calls for immediate action by Congress to reject the SBA's contemptible actions and move swiftly to assure that women receive a fair portion of federal contracts.
