Timothy's Fine Tobaccos held their second annual Cigar Family Charitable Foundation fundraiser Thursday night and was it ever, a "smoking' hot success"! Cigar lovers from around the state showed up to support Timothy's and the foundation.

"We noticed a need for families who reside where our fields are located, in the Dominican Republic. They had no drinking water and the children were not attending school. Therefore, we built a complex offering families an education, clean drinking water and one square meal per day through raising money at events such as this one tonight. The money we raise at these events goes directly to this complex and operational costs. We have also recently built a medical complex that offers dental, OBGYN and preventative care for free to these families as well as a skilled trades center. Years ago, before the foundation was formed, we would give them cash donations, which ultimately went to booze and other non-essential items. Now, we know that were making a difference," said Fuente Newman Cigar Co. Regional Sales Manager Mark Hayes.

"It is because of people like Tim Socier that the Dominican Republic High School has it's very first graduating class this year. Now that, is something that makes all of the effort worth while," said Hayes.

Timothy's Fine Tobacco Owner, Tim Socier and daughter Emily were surprised when patrons offered to purchase an empty cigar box in support of the foundation Tuesday evening!

"This has been a fantastic event that makes me feel so proud to have our passion actually help another country. People have such a negative response to smoking these days, hopefully the public can see that this organization turns the love for cigar's into a profitable cause for the needs of others," said Timothy's Fine Tobaccos Owner Tim Socier.

Timothy's raised $7,060 for the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation this year and look forward to doing it again in the spring with their dinner fundraiser.

Judge Joseph Martin was in charge of the "auction block" Tuesday evening. Judge Joseph Martin is currently Chief Judge of the Saginaw-Chippewa Tribe based in Mount Pleasant. Martin is also a member of the Menominee Indian Tribe in Wisconsin
