To Be Made Over Or Not To Be?
The Tri City Buzz "Marlo Makeover" Segment

A Day In The Life Of "Marlo World"!

Remember When You Could Simply Stand & Shake Off Those Pounds!

In the midst of putting together ideas for a fun spirited news related cable television show that we will be airing in October, the "Tri City Buzz", my wonderful and quite possibly, genius boss, O.J. Cunningham suggested a "Marlo Makeover" segment. I laughed ... he looked at me as if I had three eyes and one needed to be removed during the process in what I call, his "serious mode".

He left the office for his annual Fish Camp week and told us all to give him segment ideas when he returns. In the process of making my list of ideas for the show segments, let's just say a lot has happened in "Marlo World".

My main concentration for the past two weeks as the Sales & Marketing Director has been to find advertisers who would like a commercial sponsor spot in the show. While calling on clients, in and out of my vehicle, on and off the phone, some really weird things transpired that have me thinking ... is it time for a Marlo Makeover?

Monday I called on a local Plastic Surgeon, attempting to sell him a commercial for the show. He took one look at my face and suggested we trade the commercial for some "line lightening" ... Huh? Oh my, I realized what he was suggesting and for a moment felt like I was going to pass out right there and then in his office. I left thinking, "freebies", everyone wants exposure for nothing! Forget it, that doesn't put food on the table!

Tuesday, I made a maintenance call on an advertiser who owns a fitness studio. We had discussed in the past doing a workout program that we could give her some additional exposure on. In other words, I WAS examining the possibility of trading exposure for losing my fanny! However, was not sure if I wanted "it" (25 extra pounds of 40 year old lard) to be exposed to the public through an article fashion that MyBayCity would follow. So, I have simply been pondering the idea. However, when I spoke to her Tuesday, she uttered an unfamiliar, scary and intelligible suggestion to me ... BOOTCAMP FOR BOOTIES! Huh? I thought to myself ... maybe she simply saw one of my pieces on camera, we all know that puts on 20 pounds!

Later that day, while driving aimlessly through the streets of downtown Bay City I found myself thinking ... I'm an upfront, tell it like it is kind of gal who appreciates when people do the same, so maybe I do need a little help, but put my butt through Bootcamp?

Following a vivid dream, or should I say nightmare about us taping a "Marlo Makeover" segment with our fabulous video production expert, Lori Maxson, Owner of Northstar Video & Promotions Tuesday night, I awoke Wednesday morning to a beautiful Fall day! I had a fresh outlook and the mindset that I was going to have a positive attitude and sell the remaining spots for the show! My first stop of the day was a new dentist's office in town to see if maybe they would be interested in gaining some exposure for their new business through a commercial campaign on the show. While going over the details of the commercial advertising promotions (which, by the way, $1000 gets you 13 weeks of exposure/$3600 gets you the entire year!), I noticed he was not looking me in the eye ... but at my teeth. I quickly stopped smiling and put my hand over my mouth. He responded that he simply noticed that my teeth could use some attention and asked me when the last time I had dental work was. At this point I wanted to answer, back when clothes fit and body parts were still in their perspective places, but I took the professional approach and told him it had been a decade since I had been to a dentist. All the while thinking to myself he would need a good set of Craftsman power tools ready to rock if he wanted to work on my teeth after a decade! He mentioned they are accepting new patients and I left the building, lips closed and no longer smiling freely as I usually do.

The final straw was during a meeting at the office that went terribly wrong. We are in the process of building a Restaurant Guide for advertisers to feature their specials, dishes or coupons in and I came up with, what I thought was the greatest idea since sliced bread. "I want to call the Restaurant Guide, The Belly Button"! Those in attendance LOVED the idea and I was so very happy! The Belly Button it is then! We moved on to discussing what artwork we would fashion for The Belly Button and someone suggested a picture of my belly button, I took one look down while about falling off my chair to see if I could even SEE it anymore and decided, THAT IS IT! I am putting a "Marlo Makeover" segment on my list!

I have come to the conclusion that indeed, it may be "that time" for me. I believe in the old', "everything happens for a reason" analogy and I think someone much more powerful than myself, wants me to do this FOR myself. I turned forty years old this year, single mom of three boys and work very hard to achieve my goals and teach my boys that nothing is handed to you on a silver platter. You have to work hard, be appreciative of what you have and move forward through life's struggles when they are staring you in the face. At this point in time, what is staring me in the face is what my kids would call "junk in the trunk", an extra 25 pounds, "lines of life" ... that apparently need lightening and tattered teeth that need desperate bonding repair and attention.

When O.J. returns from "man camp" he will definitely see this on my list. I now say, bring it on! I better be smiling big, looking small and feeling younger at the end if I truly put myself out there like this!

What do you think? Do you think it would be interesting to watch this process unfold through segments on the show which would include busting my butt boot-camp, bonding my teeth and botox? Is that really something people would be interested in and watch week after week and would it inspire you to do the same?

Let me know by simply clicking on "leave a comment" in the Agree or Disagree spot below (by the way, you can post anonymously and do not have to input your phone or email to send a comment)! Be sure to watch out for "Betsy" the bee so you don't get stung! She will be buzzing around your living room soon ...

The Tri City Buzz will be aired beginning in October on Charter Mainstreet on Saturday & Sunday mornings at 9:00a.m. and 9:00p.m.!

Too funny! I give you credit for even pondering putting yourself out there to the public like that! I would definitly follow this segment and be sure to not miss an episode of this show. I have had work done and am so glad cameras were not rolling through the process! However, you will inspire women to not only take a look at themselves in the mirror, but maybe, just maybe, not be afraid to do something about lifes changes. I know I feel like a new person! Kudos!

If I had a chance to change my "junk in the trunk" for a few freebies, I'd be on it! You go Girl! Inspire us over 40 women with a few laugh lines, and put your bootie through Bootie Camp!
