State Representative Fred Miller (D-Mount Clemens), Chair of the House Appropriations Community College Subcommittee, invited residents to attend a hearing of the subcommittee on Monday at Delta College to hear about issues impacting community colleges, as well as to voice their opinions and concerns.

"If we're serious about rebuilding our economy and attracting new, high-demand jobs to Michigan, we need to focus on educating our workforce," Miller said. "We must make sure our residents and displaced workers have the opportunity to receive the education and training they need to compete for those jobs, and community colleges are absolutely essential to that process. Taking these hearings around the state will allow our residents and college students to voice their opinions to the subcommittee."

The House Appropriations Community College Subcommittee hearing took place on Monday, March 2, at 3 p.m. at the Delta College Board Room, Room B151, 1961 Delta Road in University Center.

Miller, a chief architect of the Hire Michigan First job-creation plan, has made it his priority to create good-paying jobs for workers and to ensure that Michigan has a highly-trained workforce to compete for jobs in high-demand fields, like renewable energy and life sciences. He encourages all interested residents to attend the hearing.

"Community colleges are a great way for displaced workers to get the training they need to get themselves back on the job in a new field," Miller said. "A well-educated workforce will help attract and create the jobs that Michigan needs to become a leader in the 21st century global economy."
